Why Did I Get New Rashes On Abdomen, Chest After Taking Prednisone For Poison Ivy?

I have poison ivy. I am VERY allergic. I had a shot at the ER last Monday and took Prednisone 40 mg for 5 days. The original rashes are almost gone, but I now have it on my abdomen, chest, waist,....Will this eventually go away or do I need to seek more treatment?

Hi,

As per your query you have symptoms of new rashes on the abdomen, chest after taking Prednisone for poison ivy which seems to be an allergic reaction.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to apply cold compresses to rashes to reduce redness and inflammation. You should take over the counter antihistamine like Benadryl. You should avoid touching or pricking rashes. If the condition doesn't get well then consult a dermatologist for proper examination. The doctor may prescribe immunosuppressants along with corticosteroid ointment.
