Why Am I Hearing My Own Voice And Eating Sound?

I am 61.I am 5 foot 1 inch and weigh 10stone 2 pounds. My left ear felt blocked and as if the sound is trapped. I can hear my own voice and when I eat I can hear every bite etc. Sometimes pain I feel as if I have hearing but it the sound can't escape. I've seen an ENT specialist who put a gromit in. He also checked for any tumours. Constant tinnitus but misery with hearing my own voice and eating 24/7. Feeling cut of from life now and not wanting to talk.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

The possible causes are:

1. Middle Ear Effusion lead to decrease air conduction but bone conduction is intact while you're chewing or talking words they may conduct to your ear.
2. Eustachian tube block.
3. Sensory nerve damage.
4. Temporomandibular Joint Arthritis et cetera.

Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Please consult your ENT specialist he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
