Hi..Lisch nodules are found on the iris (thats the coloured part of the eye) in Neurofibromatosis 1. In this condition coffee colored skin lesions also occur. Lisch nodules by themselves are harmless. But in people with neurofibromatosis, optic nerve tumours may occur. Your first doctor probably wanted to confirm the Lisch nodules and rule out any optic nerve tumour, and so referred you to a eye doctor. Do consult a Internal Medicine physician to find out if you have neurofibromatosis. Take care, Dr. Ashish

Ophthalmologist Dr. Shehab Ahmad Fares Al-Abed's  Response
Welcome to Health Care Magic Forum..

Lisch nodules in the eye are pigmented (darkly colored) nodules on the iris (the colored part of your eye) and it is only seen on the slit lamp microscope.. They, by themselves, are harmless and do not affect vision BUT the aid in the diagnosis of neurofibromatosis type 1.

neurofibromatosis is a genetic disease characterized by skin changes (spots, growths or simple freckles) with eye and bone changes..

94% of patient with neurofibromatosis have lisch nodules after the age of 6.

My word: Do not bother yourself with neurofibromatosis at this point as it is so early to talk about it here..
I am hoping you reply to us about what your ophthalmologist is going to say about if you truly are having lisch nodules or not.. and if he refers you to another doctor to assess the pimple on your back..

Wish you a good mental and physical health..
