Hi and thanks for the query,
What you describe is characteristic of exsudative tonsillitis and which is a probable bacterial infection. This is usually caused by Streococccus Spp and a proper treatment is often required. Poor treatment options especially in children could lead to rheumatic fever, with chronic complications in the heart and joints.,
The good examination of the chest is important to exclude a concomitant septicemic lung infection. This might require a chest X ray depending on the results of the clinical evaluation. Lack of fever might be because you have taken an analgesic or an anti inflammatory drug. When fever is absent with no drug taken, it is probably of viral origin. Treatment usually lasts 10 days when its of bacterial origin. Deciding which drug to use depends on the cause and a proper clinical evaluation by your primary care physician or ENT specialist could be most appropriate.
Thanks and best regards,
Luchuo, MD.
