first rule out that there is thalasemia minor by doing the tests needed. The thalassemias classified as minima and minor are usually heterozygotes (β0/β, β+/β+), with a phenotype more severe than that of thalassemia trait, but not as severe as that of thalassemia intermedia. The genotype should be determined, and these children should be monitored for iron accumulation.
