Which Is The Best Treatment For Epilepsy?

My Daughter has epilepsy and will soon be 18 because her pediatric Doctor has left should she see an adult doctor? She was diagnosed (at 14 or so) with simple complex seizures and has tried over three medicines without any luck. I was just thinking there may be more options out there for adults?

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

Yes, you should take your doctor to an adult neurologist or epileptologist. There are several good anti-epileptic drugs for adults. With them, it is possible to achieve good seizure control in about 70% of patients.

The remaining 30% of patients may not improve with medications, and are called as medically-refractory epilepsy cases. For some of them, epilepsy surgery would be a good option.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
