Which Drug Among Morphine XL And Fentanyl Provides Better Long Term Coverage?

Which drug provides better long term coverage? Morphine XL or Fentanyl patches? My dr has offered me the patch as the morphine doesn t seem to be doing the job. I have a lot of ups and downs and take a lot of breakthru meds. Is it me or the drug that is causing that?

I am so sorry to hear about this difficulty getting your pains well managed. These two drugs are equally effective However, clients respond to them differently. The secret with pain management lies in identifying what works best for each client and sticking to it. If morphine has not been working well, try fentanyl to see if it offers a better control and choose depending on the results. Talk to your doctor about this. The problem is not you and it is not the drug, the only difficulty is that the right dose and or combination has not been identified for you. Work with your doctor on this!
