Dear Minakshi

The weight and height figures you have mentioned are very high for a 5 1/2 year old child. Is he really 150 cm(5 feet) tall?

The recurrent cough and cold is an allergic problem like allergic rhinitis or asthma, triggered by a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract. There is no need to give him antibiotics repeatedly. Better consult a Pediatrician who can examine and make a proper diagnosis. If your child has Asthma, he may benefit from inhalers. A flu shot every year may also help him. The problem is likely to subside as he grows older. Try giving him Vitamin C chewable tabs daily or even Chavanprash which contains lot of this vitamin derived from Aamla.

I have had flu like symptoms for over a week now. These include headache, cough with green phlegm, eardrum swelling, runny nose, and fever. After a week I got eye infection as well. I consulted a doctor yesterday and she prescribed me antibiotics along with eyedrops. I have also been taking flu tablets which are available over-the-counter. I still don t feel any better and my loss of hearing keeps transferring from one year to the other. Any suggestions?

I have a 2.5 year old daughter (12.5 kgs) who is having cough since last 3 weeks. It looks like dry cough. There is no chest congestion but she has runny nose which is sometimes clear and sometimes yellow. Cough is worst when she sleeps. She was on bricanyl for last 3 weeks with no respite. Now she is prescribed Relent syrup 7 ml twice a day for 5 days and nasal spray Nasivion three times a day for 5 days. Does this look ok ? why would she be coughing so badly for last 3 weeks ? Is it allergy or cold infection which would need antibiotics ?

My 3 year old daughter has a persistent cough which is keeping her awake at night. During the day we have sprayed with a saline nasal spray which seems to be loosening the mucus and allowing it to be discharged through the nose when sneezing. We do have a neublizer at home and Duolin for our 5 year old son. Would it be appropriate to give this to her? If not what can we do to make it easier for her to have a peaceful sleep? We have had her at the Dr twice in the last 2 weeks. First time she had a viral infection and had a course of anti-biotics. Second time she was running a high temperature and the Dr said that she had full blown flu, prescribed rinex and pain medication. Has started vomiting and dirohea since.
