When Will It Be Effective To Take HIV Test?

Sir, I had unprotected sex. I did a HIV DUO serum CMIA 4th generation on 20th day after exposure. The results are negative. 0.28
Now I want to understand the window period of this test. Is window period the time in which p24 antigens could be detected or its the time in which the p24antigens are not detected??what is the window period of this test.. can it successfully detect antibodies HIV 1 M n O and HIV2 if not p24 antigen. How relaxed should I be with the test results??

Window period means its time when hiv antibodies are in the developing phase so routine test which can not detect antibody are negativein the window period . P24 is antigen so we ca detect it but its also appear late aftr a month of exposure. so you should go for testing after a month. Go for confirmatory test like p24 antigen test or pcr

Hello , I shall answer one by one.
1. The window period refers to the time after infection and before seroconversion, during which markers of infection (HIV-specific antigen and antibodies) are still absent or too scarce to be detectable.Naturally it is the time in which p24 antigens have not become detectable .
2. The window period of this test can be average of 13--28 days.
3. Yes they do detect antibodies against HIV-2 , and HIV 1 subtypes O and N .
4. As per guidelines you have to get tested at 90 days to be absolutely relaxed .
Hope this does help.
Regards.
