When To Do Next Scan For Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm?

i had been diagnoised with an abdominal aortic aneurysm in 2011 3mm in size, I had another scan in May 2013 and when i saw my doctor today I asked him when i should have another scan and he looked back at the results of my last scan and said it didn t show the aneurysm, i asked him well what happened to it and he said he guess it dissapeared so is this possible.

Hi, it must have been 3cm in size or 30mm when you were diagnosed with it. Usually, we call it an aneurysm when it is 1.5 times the size of the normal Aorta in that area. 30mm is borderline and some might consider it aneurysmal while others might. Anyway, we usually suggest treatment for the same when it is around 55mm or 5.5cm in size or diameter unless it is a Saccular or sac like aneurysm, in which treatment should be offered whenever it is diagnosed. If you do not have any problems due to the aneurysm, you should have yearly scans to monitor its growth rate. Do not worry and take care. Feel free to contact me.
