When Is Lamictal Or Zoloft Prescribed For Headaches?

Why would my neurologist prescribe lame tall or Zoloft for headaches possibly caused by the trigeminal nerve? I am not bipolar, depressed, nor do I have seizures. He did say both drugs are very good for treating headaches, but after looking at side effects - not so sure I want to be on either medications.
