If the heart is damaged and the ejection fraction is low, blood stays in the chambers too long and can form blood clots (sheet clots) on the walls of the chamber(s). This is a factor in congestive heart failure. Treatment consist of IV heparin ( in the hospital) and coumadin or warfarin after release to keep the clot from re-forming.. Blood clots other places cause heart attacks or strokes.
