What Would Cause A 19 Year Old To Have Heart Pounding Slowly Causing Nausea And Dizziness ?

What would cause a 19 year old male to have heart related issues? Since August he has had 6 separate incidents where he feels like his heart is slowing considerably and then it speeds up and pounds in his chest. When this happens he feels dizzy and has nausea. It happened twice yesterday. This happens when he is resting not with exertion.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Nausea, vomiting, dizziness associated with palpitations is usually due to hypokalemia, atrial fibrillation, angina, congenital heart defects, heart infections (endocarditis, pericarditis), arrhythmia, etc.

Risk factors of heart disease are overweight, smoking, high blood pressure/high cholesterol, diabetes mellitus and family history of heart disease.

Avoid oily spicy food, a regular exercise recommended, avoid addictions if any, take boiled homemade food, fruits and veggies.

Visit ER, get him physically checked, get done all lipid functions tests, CBC, urinalysis, ECG, echo, X-Ray, stress tests, CT and MRI. Get evaluated for any developing coronary artery disease and get treated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K,
