What Would Cause E-coli In Sinus?

My ENT says I have E Coli in my sinuses and is treating me with an antibiotic. I had sinus surgery June 7 and then got a staff infection which was treated with antibiotic. I had never heard of E Coli in the sinuses. Is this a common source of sinus infections?

E. Coli are relatively rare to cause Sinusitis. One way to confirm it is to get Culture and Sensitivity test done. If that has been done and the bacteria cultered were reported E. Coli then yes you have got E. Coli causing sinusitis. E. Coli bacteria normally lives in our intestine and most of them do not cause any disease. Only some strains do cause dosease and Diarrhea, Urinary Tract Infections are more common. However Respiratory Tract infections can be caused by E. Coli too either in the presence of already caused infection somewhere in the body like UTI, or independently just by gaining access to the susceptible Organ systems. For example, swimming in a pool contaminated eith E. coli can cause Respiratory infection with E. coli.
The culture and Sensitivity report must have come with antibiotics to which the cultured organisms are sensitive. Take a full blown course and you will be all right.
