What Would A Greenish Grey Lump In Ear Be?

my fiance has a greenish grey lump in his right ear. The end is round like a qutip but is seems as it gets narrow the further into his ear it goes. He went to the doctor monday and was told he had a wax build up and his eardrum was not ruptured. He has severe pain in the ear and the surrounding area. He has not had any sinus issues. He cannot hear out of his right ear. When he went to the doctor the remove purlent and bloody discharge from his ear. He works in papermills but his ear pain started saturday when we were in Shreveport la at a hotel.
