What Treatment To Take If Creatinine Level Is 8.5 ?
My dad is 68, diabetic over 20 yrs, had a stroke recently, 3 sessions of dialysis & since he did not want further medication .. we got him home.One leg is lost & the other one has gangarine(needs aputation). Today s test shows Urea 130 & creatinine 8.5. Is he in the last stages of life ?he does not want any more dialysis..pl advice whats next?

Read your prob, your dad has been sufffering from diabetic nephropathy. serum creatinin is at high leval. it needs dialysis. he should control blood sugur ( helps in further progress of diease ) by diet control n medicine. avoid protine riched diet n fruit juice. he should take medicine as per advise. all of it helps in improvs quality of life.

Since he is diabetic his sugars must be in control to keep any other infections in control.But infection itself will increase blood sugars and he already has gangrene in his leg and lost one.Try keeping his sugars in control. If the amputation is required then it has to be done or the infection may spread. Dialysis is also equally important to keep his kidney functioning or you will have to do kidney transplantation which is again no favorable in this case. So better follow your doctors advice since it is very complicated.
