Seems like he is going to be in the hospital for a while. Its important that a person keeps his mind busy and hopefully off the reason why he is there. While the gift store in the hospital sells "men's" magazines for a reason, I would buy him a big book of Suduko puzzles and maybe do a few with him to get him started. Just wish him well in the card; keep it light. He knows why he is there.

My brother-in-law diagnosed with conjestive heart failure on 6-29- at ER, they gave him? some kind of shot because of the extreme edema in his legs and feet and wanted him to stay in hospital, he refused ( from old school if you can t pay don t do it) ANyway, on Friday he went to his regular doctor who prescribed a pill to eliminate the liquids from lungs I think, its not working, Today, I am very concerned his legs and feet are very swolllen, he is vomiting blood and will not go to ER, insists on waiting until his dr. appt. on Friday. Can someone call an ambulance for someoone else even if they refuse to go to the hospital, I know he won tlet the paramedics take him.......Just so worried and don t know what to do. He is 77 yrs. old and such an wonderful person. He also won t apply for medicare, I am pretty sure he would qualify. No, he doesn t drink alcohol now, he quit about 20 years ago, but was a heavy drinker at that time. I CANNOT POSSIBLY DECIDE A BEST ANSWER THERE ARE TOO MANY. Hi, just having probs with blood pressure, it was low, so the drs took me off Cardizem CD and put me on fludrocortisone, up to 0.3mg daily. Was stable about 6 months, then my BP jumped to 160/90, was in hospital overnight (about 3 monts ago) and it came back down to normal. Fludrocortisone changed down to 0.2mg and BP stabilised. I have been off the florinef for about a week now,as a test with drs ok, and currently (in bed at almost 4am!) my BP is sitting at 159/116 with a heart rate of 75. I am 18 1/2 years post heart transplant, current ag is 32.

My son is 36 years old. He has dilated cardiomyopathy with a heart efficiency rate of 15 to 20%. He has sleep apnea and sleeps with a CPAP mask. He has had a pacemaker/defibrillator implanted. He is 6'5" and weighs about 360. He knows he needs to lose weight, but even with a healthy diet of fish, veggies and no salt, he is still heavy. He rides a recumbent bicycle about 3 miles a day. He is on diuretics and coreg. What would you suggest as the best course of treatment from here? I am not sure he would survive a heart transplant.

Do you think it is possible for a 60 year old man who has congestive heart failure and Bronchiactasis to undergo a heart transplant? His doctors are saying it can't be done because of the damaged lungs. (30 years ago he had lung cancer and the radiation caused this.)
