What To Do If The Skin Has Turned Darker In An African American Female After Using Lemon?

Hi, Im an african American female. I tried using lemon juice on my skin for a few days. I have discontinued this regimen because it burned my skin. Now my skin is darker and worse taking vitamin e now. What else do you reccomend and how long to recover?

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM

You seem to have developed Post-inflammatory Hyperpigmentation due to the irritation that you experienced after using lemon.

I would advice my patients with Post-inflammatory Hyperpigmentation to use a Broad Spectrum sunscreen with both UV A and UV B through out the day.

A skin lightening cream at night containing one or more of the following ingredients like kojic acid, glycolic acid, arbutin, tetrahydrocurcumin, magnesium ascorbyl phosphate OR liquorice extract etc would help in decreasing the Hyperpigmentation gradually
