What To Do For Vaginal Dryness, UTI After Stopped Premarin Intake?

Hi I am 48 yrs old had a hysterectomy total at age 26. Have been on premarin 1mg up until about 1 1/2 ago. I quit taking bc of leg cramps and chest pain. I am now having problems with vaginal dryness uti low libido low energy. My doctor has put me on es trace cream 4gms daily for two weeks and then cut back for regular dosage of 1 g three times a week. I am wondering if I should try using the premarin pill again or should I be taking progesterone with the cream?

Hi, I went through your query. Vaginal dryness , low libido and UTI are all manifestations of low estrogen. So you have to take estrogen either orally or vaginally. However since synthetic estrogen has a number of adverse effects like breast disorders, blood clots, it should be taken at the least required dose which has to be adjusted according to your needs. Since you have already had a hysterectomy there is no need of additional progesterone. The main role of progesterone is to prevent endometrial hyperplasia due to unopposed action of estrogen which of course cannot occur in your case. Hope this helps.
