A week a go today, I went fishing in overcast warm weather conditions for over 10 hours. I burnt my legs quite severely, mainly my thighs and tops of ny feet. I'm fair skinned. Ive used 500ml of aftersun, as I could barely walk. My thighs are now a purple/blue shade, itch in places and I get a Sharp searing pain in my thigh which makes it do a a mini spasm. Am I going to be ok? Thanks in advance. Sherrie
I have gone through your query and I have understood it.
Acute sunburn can be very painful and discomforting. The period of recovery depends on the extent of injury. A sunburn can normally take up to a week to heal.
Oral steroids are rapidly acting and immediately bring down the swelling and discomfort. If I was the treating doctor I would have preferred to start you on a short course of an oral steroids for faster recovery.
In addition to that you could use topical moderately potent topical steroid e.g fluticasone propionate cream, twice daily for a week.
An OTC pain killer/anti-inflammatory e.g ibuprofen or aspirin can be taken twice or thrice daily to relieve the pain and discomfort.
Always use a broad spectrum sunscreen, throughout the day, whenever you plan to be out in the sun for long and reapply every 2-3 hours.
Wish you a speedy recovery regards
