What To Do For The Side Effects Of Coumadin?

If a person is on the medication coumadin and has experienced the following: shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing general weakness, and nosebleeds as well as deep discoloration of one hand and arm, and the Dr. has taken her off the medication (she is 94) how long would it generally take to see improvement?

hi
coumadin is an anti-coagulant, maybe started on the patient as indicated.

long term usage and side-effects are bleeding, skin patches, bleeding joints can be due to alteration in coagulation profile.

in that case coagulation profile is monitored daily with administration of vitamin k, fresh whole blood or fresh frozen plasma.

once the bleeding stops the drug can be carefully continued after a duration of 3 to 6 days in titred doses under medical supervision if it is indicated for life-saving purposes.

all the best.
take care
