What To Do For Irregular Heart Beat?

I have an irregular heartbeat I have had for years years now they say I have cardiomyapathy I quit smoking and drinking roughly 7 years ago i drank at least 2 times a week for years probably 15-18 beers every 3 days or so and a pack of cigarettes a day My doctor said its important to know is the cardiomyapathy is related to drinking why is that and is there anything I can do to help make it better

Yes smoking and drinking will worsen Dilated cardiomyopathy,hence avoid taking them..It leads to complications like heart failure,pulmonary edema and even cardiac arrest.So get an ECG, 2 D Echo to know the ejection fraction and volumes..You should start ionotropes and anti hypertensives.Consult your cardiologist at the earliest for expert management.thankyou
