Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
vdrl can give a biologic falsely positive(BFP) reactivity, specially if it is in low titres. Moreover, vdrl is not a confirmatory test for syphilis. Also, since a repeat vdrl test has come out as negative therefore that proves that is a pointer that your previous vdrl was a false positive test result. A vdrl positive test that is suspected to be fase positive should always be followed with a specific test for syphilis like TPHA test, which would be conclusive. Therefore, you may take up a specific test for syphilis to remove all doubts from your mind. Many infectious diseases like malaria, leprosy, tuberculosis, viral infections etc have been reported as causing transient biologic false positive vdrl results. Immunizations, pregnancy etc are also causes of BFP among many others.
