Hi. Have recently had symptoms of diabetes so Dr sent me for OGTT. Fasting level was 4.8mmol and 120 min post glucose was 2.9mmol. I am confused and have an appointment in 2 weeks time with nurse for advice. I am also concerned incase I have a bad hypo. Please help. I live in the UK. I am 40, 5ft 4inches tall, weigh approx 59 kg and cholesterol is 6.4. Thankyou

Hi,

your result does not indicate diabetes. Both values are too low to diagnose diabetes. Your second value is actually lower than normal but if you don't have symptoms, you shouldn't worry. Your cholesterol is higher than normal but this is not enough to decide whether you need treatment for it or not.
More information would be needed for that (HDL cholesterol, race, blood pressure, smoking, drugs). If your HDL cholesterol is very high then a high total cholesterol poses no problem to your health.
Normal fasting glucose ranges from 4 to 5.9 mmol/L or 72-125 mg/dL. Normal cholesterol levels are usually below 200mg/dL but you can't judge with a single value alone. The doctor should estimate the cardiovascular risk.
Why did your doctor suspect diabetes? Do you have a family history of diabetes? Did you have abnormal test results in the past?
I hope I've helped!
If you need more information, please let me know the details I've mentioned above.

Kind Regards!
