Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
Elevated
IgG levels against
HSV type 1 and normal IgM levels means that you have an infection with HSV Type 1 virus and it was acquired sometimes in the past (normal levels of IgM in presence of raised IgG levels indicate past infection).
HSV Type 1 mostly causes oro-labia herpes whereas HSV type 2 is usually the cause of
genital herpes. However, change in sexual practices have blurred this distinction and now either type of Herpes virus (type 1 and type 2) can be acquired both through sexual route or through kissing.
Therefore, whether the infection with HSV type 1 in your case was sexually acquired or through kissing, cannot be judged from the test.
Sure, you can have kids in future. Herpes usually causes sores at the site of infection (genital sores or oro-labial sores). The risk to a newborn arises only if the mother has genital herpes. Genital herpes virus can be transmitted to the new born specially if one has active
infection during pregnancy.
However, this can be avoided by C-section delivery in a confirmed case of genital herpes to avoid neonatal transmission during delivery.
Herpes is not a life threatening disease and won't affect your life span.
