What Should Be The Normal Value For Cholesterol Level?

Can your cholesterol levels be too low? I just got some blood work back. Total Cholesterol Serum is 135, LDL is 48 (it was flagged as low with nl. range 95-165) HDL is 82. Since my LDL was so low it was just concerning. I was reading that there can be some links between low cholesterol and low seratonin...I am having sleep problems and suffer from anxiety. Just curious.

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that it is true that low cholesterol levels have been associated to anxiety and insomnia.

Nevertheless there is nothing to worry about.

Some diet modifications (increase fat and sugar in your diet) will help increase your cholesterol levels.

From the other hand, if these changes are not helpful, you should discuss with a specialist of the field to take medication for your sleep problems and anxiety.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
