Homeopath Dr. Arif. K. Kaware's  Response
The ejection fraction of 44% is below normal ;but we also have to understand that your father is probably suffering from ischaemia that is reduced blood supply to his heart. If this increases he will suffer a heart attack or might have suffered even that can cause decrease in heart function ( i am assuming as you did not mention that he has suffered attack). So angiography will be required to see where & how much block is present & can that be treated with medicines or otherwise. The treating CARDIOLOGIST will be the best person to decide whether you can go ahead with the procedure as he can access general condition of your father better .Please discuss with the Cardiologist.

General & Family Physician Dr. Prasad's  Response
Hi... Welcome to healthcaremagic forum...
The effectiveness of the heart functions is determined by the ejection fraction value. A value of above 50% is considered normal... Any value less than this means a failing heart.
Numerous conditions and factors are responsible to induce heart failure. Though most often very little can be done to improve the ejection fraction; modifications to improve his symptoms and to prevent progress of the condition are possible.
Angiography is a procedure done to know if there are blocks in the blood circulation of the heart - one of the causes of heart failure. Corrections of severe blocks/main arterial blocks are necessary to prevent progress of the condition and to achieve better standard and quality of living.
Apart from angiography, various other lifestyle and dietary modification in the form of proper weight, cholesterol, sugar, blood pressure and stress management may also be necessary.
Consult a cardiologist who will guide you through all these tests and suggest you the necessary changes.
Hope this helps you in understanding the condition and helps you in making the right decision.
