Dear friend.

thanks for sharing your concern.

please try and understand these facts.

There are two types of stains on teeth one is intrinsic and the other is extrinsic stain.

Intrinsic stains are present inside teeth and it occurs due to many reasons, during development.

for this cosmetic correction is required.

but there are many more other reasons like poor oral hygiene, tobacco and various food stuff, which also cause stains on teeth .

These are extrinsic stains, this can be very well cleaned completely by professional cleaning called scaling and polishing the teeth.

which will give you nice look and feel to your teeth.

Therefore i would say first visit your dentist and understand the cause .after that it can be treated beautifully.

do not worry .there is permanent solution for it.

take care.

Thanks for asking the query,

White and black dots in the mouth can be due to improper oral hygiene, chronic use of tobacco, foodstuffs.

I would suggest you to get a checkup done and go for a symptomatic treatment of complete mouth scaling and polishing.

If there are presence of intrinsic stains that can be corrected with restorations.
Get the decayed tooth restored if any.

Brush your teeth twice daily, use soft interdental toothbrush or dental floss.
Use chlorhexidine mouthwash gargles twice daily.

Get your routine dental checkup done in every six months.

Hope this helps out.

Hello Mr Girish

First of all may i know if you have ever got scaling and polishing/ bleaching done? Have these spots gone after any of these treatments? If the answer to these queries is YES, then the spots you are concerned about are extrinsic ones.

Also, take note of one thing that since such spots have been since long then these could also be flourosis ( a condition where teeth get affected due to high fluoride content in drinking water in your area.)

Third, these black dots could be decayed part of your teeth the technical term being the dental caries.

Having said all the above, its better to get your complete dental examination and subsequent treatment done. For bad breath, use chlorhex mouthwash twice daily.

Wish you good health. Take care.

Thanks for asking query,
There are two types of discoloration- 1. extrinsic - occuring due to tea, tobacco , food , drinks, medicines, betelnut , improper oral hygiene.
2 . intrinsic-occuring due to stain in enamel and dentin because of deposition of certain substances. reasons like developmental deformities, internal resorption, necrosis of pulp etc
I suggest you to visit your dentist and get it checked.Get scaling and polishing done.
Maintain oral hygiene , brush twice daily, use antiseptic mouthwash.

Dentist Dr. Farah Hussain's  Response

Hello there ,

Thanks for writing your query,

Appearence of white and black dots over the teeth indicates compromised oral health.

It is caused due poor oral hygiene ,improper brushing and flossing that leads to accumulation of bacterial plaque and calculus deep in the gum pockets and root surfaces of the teeth.

Gingivitis presents with symptoms of redness , bleeding gums , swelling , pain ,recession and sensitivity.

Smoking and tobacco chewing leads to staining of the teeth .

It needs to be treated by thorough professional deep scaling of gums and root planing of the teeth to remove all the irritants from the gum pockets and stains from the teeth.

i would suggest you to go for symptomatic treatment at home like gargling with lukewarm saline water or antiseptic mouthwash like chlorhexidine or betadine.

i hope this helps ,

take care.
