What Should I Do To Manage Unacceptable Behavior In My Child?

I have a step daughter that is 12 years old and for the past 2 years has put me through hell (excuse my french). She does not listen to me ever and she always gives me attitude and I don t know what to do anymore. Punishing her does not work. I have tried taking things from her, I have tried making her write, I have tried making her go to bed early, I have tried not letting her spend the night with people, I have tried having a punishment jar, I have tried having a reward jar for good behavior, I have tried charts, I have tried making her read more, I have tried pretty much everything. I don t know what to do anymore. I am to the point of asking a psychiatrist for a referral to send her to a boot camp or wilderness camp. She has no respect for me. My husband doesn t really do anything but reward her and I have no idea what to do anymore. Please help me

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Children of this age always seem to be so adamant even to their own parents. She might be having an inner feeling that you are not her own mother, so she might repel more.

Try to be with her as she wants. for that you may have to keenly observe what she likes and dislikes. It takes much time and patience, but slowly if you try doing that she will start responding to you properly.

Even try talking to her teacher at school to understand how she behaves. Teenage will be more crucial as its the age of more repulsion. Hope you understand that its not a simple thing to raise a child.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
