What Precaution Should Be Taken By A Person Suffering From Osteopenia, Osteoporotic, With High Risk Fracture?
My name is Tina Philbrook and I have had Osteopenia since I was 42 yrs old. It was olways in the -2.2 range. I hae been on a regular exercise and diet schedule. I am not a smoker, but I do have severe asthma and am a cancer survivor. I just recently had a Bone density/spine/femur test done. The BMD measured at Femur Total right is 0.668 g/cm2 with a T-score of -2.7. I have been diagnosed in less then two years as osteoporotic according to the WHO and at high risk fracture. I also take 50,000 units of vitamin D every other day because my levels are low since the cancer. I also have a permanent port and have Boniva injection every 3 months for the last 4 yrs. Can you think of anything else I could have done? I have severe fibromyalgia and raynaulds as well.
I have gone through your query. It seems that you are suffering from post-menopausal osteoporosis. As you are on high risk for fracture, exercise should be done cautiously. Apart from Vitamin D and Boniva there is option for Calcitonin and estrogen intake after some blood hormone level investigation. Strontium Ranelate a newer drug can be taken but after consulting your treating doctor.
Do consider a positive feedback as a credit to my work. Let me know if you have any further questions.
