General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic

In bacterial infections the secretions will be more thick and may have yellowish tinge. If you notice symptoms decreasing in 3-4 days it is likely viral which will completely subside in 7 days.
Management of viral upper respiratory infection include drinking plenty of fluids and staying hydrated. You can take tylenol for pain and fever. Anti histamine -decongestant combination like Allegra-d can also be taken. Use saline nasal spray and steam inhalation to relieve nasal congestion.

Hope this answers your questions
