What Medicine Can Stop The Runny Nose?

I had a stroke on May 13, 2010. I got to the hospital in time to get the tPA and regained all my strength. I onlly have a small numbness in my right finger tips which I can deal with. My problem is that after the stroke I have a severe runny nose. It drives me crazy. My ENT doctor has given me two medications and a spray. The one I am on presently helps a little but I have an enlarged prostate and the med says I should not use it. Have you any idea what can be done to relieve the runny nose with taking medication? Thanks in advance

Hello

Thank you for trusting HCM

Dear yes anti histamines can cause decrease bladder contractions, decongestants may aggravate resistance to the flow of urine by squeezing of smooth muscle in prostate. Second and third generation antihistamines (lortadine, fexofenadine, cetrizine) can cause less effects on bladder compare to first generation antihistamines(Chlorphenyramine, Doxylamine, bromohexamine, diphenhydramine). Take only the amount of medicine recommended. Do not exceed the recommended frequency. Do not use more than one cold medicine at a time. If you are taking other drugs, ask your physician whether it is safe for you to also take an over-the-counter cold remedy. If your symptoms not improved consult your doctor.
