What Medication Is Suggested For Rosacea?

Hi! I have severe rosacea. My dermatologist prescribed Finanea Gel 15%; however, I can no longer buy it due to my insurance not paying for it. I m a 64 year old female, on Medicare, and this prescription costs me $237.00! What over the counter medicine would be helpful. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

Cool, moist compresses can often soothe itchy skin or you may find relief from rosacea itch using an over-the-counter antihistamine such asdiphenhydramine (Benadryl)

Avoid using topical corticosteroids, such as hydrocortisone, because they only treat the itch, not the underlying cause.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
