What Materials Are Used In Joint Replacement Surgery?

I m writing a report for school on joint replacement and I cannot seem to find any information about what kind of materials are used in replacement joints or during the surgery to replace the joint. I was wondering if you could tell me what materials are used in joint replacement surgery as well as what the replacement joints are made of.

Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Jayesh Vaza's  Response
Dear patient
Joint replacement prosthesis is made up of special type of stainless steel designed not to react with human body immune systems. They are s available in different shapes and sizes depending on which joint needs to be replaced. If hip needs to be replaced then there are three components stem and head and cup. Depending on size of patients bones different shapes and sizes are available. If your knee is to be replaced then there are three xomponents for proximal tibia distal femur and patella (knee cap). If shoulder needs to be replaced then there are two components stem and cup. Now a days this implants are coated with hydroxyappatite to make them fix to bone well. This implants can be fixed to bone with or without bone cement. Bone cement is special type of cement designed to fix implants to bone. Now a days new impacts are made with ceramic material.hope this is useful.
