What Leads To Syncope?

Ok over the past 2 years I ve had several black outs. It usually happens at night some times it would wake me up out of my sleep.things would spin and i would just blank out and wouldn t remember anything not how long i was there or how i got there. Now it s gotten to the point where i blacked out and hot my head on the tub. I ve been hospitalized for this. And still no luck. They did tell me that i have dead spots on my brain. Any advice on this would help a great deal. I have 5 kids that depend on me.

Blackouts have to be investigated. It is essential to do the following tests. Blood sugar, Insulin level and C peptide , complete blood count , echo cardiogram. I presume CT scan on brain has been done. Blackouts may arise due to low blood sugar called hypoglycemia . this can arise due to anti diabetic drugs or due to certain tumours. Blackouts may also be due to improper blood flow to the brain due to blood vessel narrowing vin the neck or brain itself. So you may do a carotid Doppler. Other causes of blackouts could be related to epilepsy type of diseases. You may do an EEG. Treatment depends on the cause of the blackouts. Complete metabolic profile is essential as an investigation. Please avoid driving or activity with machinery etc. It is advisable to have a companion with you if you are involved in outdoor activity. You may also have a bath mat and floor mat and carpets to avoid head injury. Please avoid escalators until you are better. Best regards
