What Is Treatment For Swelling, minor Headaches Near Temple After Basketball Injury?

While playing basketball I was hit in the left temple area. This was two months ago but I still have a little swelling minor headaches and the temple area is tender to the touch. Are these serious symptoms? How long does this type of injury take to heal?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. If it was just concussion wound due to injury, it would have been healed in a dew weeks. 2 months is too long time for any minor injury pain or swelling to persist.

It seems that the temporal bone has suffered a minor crack that is not diagnosed yet. Swelling is also a symptom of broken or cracked bone.

I would advise you to visit an oral and maxillofacial surgeon for clinical examination and further investigations such as x-ray of the area to rule out any bone related injury. Any treatment can be advised after the examination and test results.

If you are in pain right now, you can take Ibuprofen 400 mg or Acetaminophen 500 mg up to three times a day.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic, I wish you recover soon!

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
