What Is The Treatment Period For Hyperthyroidism?

Dear Sir,

I Mr. Keyur from India , recently I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. Test Results are as follows.

T3 =      2.49 ng/ml
T4 =      9.49 mcg/dl
TSH =      < 0.05 micro IU/ml

I am taking a prescribed medicine Carbimazole – 5 mg/daily dose
I usually feels dizziness , head balance problem , hand shaking symptoms. But No abnormal perspiration , no frequent bowl moment , no racing beats ( it’s only < 70)

I also have essential hypertension ( < 140/90 ) and taking atenolol – 12.5 mg/daily dose since last 1.5 years.

•     Is my illness is very critical ?
•     How long should I take these medicines to control hyperthyroidism?
•     What could be the effect of these drug interactions of Carbimazole and atenolol ?

Please advise,

Regards,

Keyur

Hello Mr Keyur, I just read your query and from what you have mentioned it appears that you have hyperthyroidism and hypertension and you are taking medications for same.
Well you have to take anti thyroid medications as long as your TSH is low.
No there is no drug interaction between the two drugs.Infact atenolol is the reason that you don't have palpitations.
No your illness is not critical.
Hope you find my advice of some benefit.Good luck.
