thanks for your question,
as she is feeling numbness in her toe,so there is compression of nerve root(L5 is involved). It is unlikely to be cured only by taking rest and medication. So surgery is the option. Every surgery has it's own risk. But with modern specialities and surgical tactis and by a good surgeon, surgery is usually rewarding.

Welcome to HealthcareMagic.

The option of surgery comes after treatment with medicines and bed rest.Bed rest is the main deciding element of treatment.I would like to know if she had any trauma which led to slipped disc.Or did it happen by itself? I advise you to get tested for TB spine also.

When it comes to surgery , it would be a major surgery and correction depends on the extent of compression on the nerve tissue between disc and if any herniation.

Please get back with more details.

Take care.
