What Is The Treatment For Urinary Tract Infection And Diabetes?
Hello. I have a 90 year old grandmother with chronic urine infections and is a diabetic. She is now suffering with loose bowels. She also has what looks like blood in her urine. What can we do for her? She has been seen numerous times by her doctor as well as a trip to the ER.
Hello Thanks for query. Frequent episodes of UTI with blood in urine (Hematuria)is basically due to incomplete emptying of bladder secondary to what is called as Post Menopausal Urethral Stenosis.
She needs to consult qualified Urologist for clinical examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis. 1) Urine routine and culture. 2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis 3) Endoscopic examination of bladder and urethral calibration .
Urethral calibration followed by long term catheterization will help to prevent UTI
Further to calibration and long term catheterization she will need regular daily urethral dilatation by a relative at home .This will help to prevent getting repeated episodes of UTI.
Proper dietary restrictions and medications to control diabetes is equaly important to have check on all these problems .
