If I were your doctor, I would consider it due not only to your tonsillitis, but the infection possibly spread to your lower respiratory tract also. I would send your sputum for a culture and sensitivity test, and start a broad spectrum antibiotic which might have to be changed depending on the sensitivity report. I would also advise you for regular steam inhalation two to three times a day, nebulisation if need be depending on the physical findings in your lungs, and would add an expectorant in your treatment.
