What Is The Treatment For Stroke?

Hi sir, i am 72 years old. I had a stroke last july and my left side incapacitated. After the stroke i had two seizures and my doctor priscribed Eptoin syrup. After the three months use the doctor changed the medicine to Epilive tablets. After using both the medicines there was no incidents of seizures. How long should i take the tablet mentioned above? Is there any chance of recurring seizures? Kindly advice me. K.Chandran

I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

I think your doctor was right to start treatment to prevent seizures. He must have switched it afterwards to Epilive because it has fewer side effects so I consider that a wise decision as well.
Regarding the duration of the treatment, while there are no precise rules, it is continued for at least 2 years before treatment interruption is considered. Even then it should be after a consult, a control EEG and if the decision to try weaning is made it has to to be done in a very gradual way, not overnight.

I hope to have been of help.
