What is the treatment for severe sore throat?

I ve had a sore throat that generally comes in the evening when I m trying to sleep. I ve had it for about 3 nights now. The back of my throat is veiny and red. My throat doesn t hurt all the time, generally in the evening after I ve smoked a joint and in the morning when I wake up. I no longer smoke cigarettes anymore.. and at times it would hurt when I would swallow my saliva. Should I be concerned, or just continue doing my routine. I m pretty healthy.. I get over 8 glasses of water a day and I take vitamin D and C daily.

Hi,

Pain while swallowing saliva indicate towards granulation in throat or involvement of small bones like hyoid bone or thyroid cartilages and attached muscles by inflammation; the stretch on these cause painful swallowing only for saliva as the quantity of saliva is less and thus you need to strain more to push it down. I would advise you to take Povidone iodine gargles.

Take an anti-inflammatory like Serratiopeptidase or Ibuprofen if these suit you. If these do not relieve the symptoms then consult your Doctor or ENT Specialist for evaluation, examination and investigations to get a proper prescription based management with antibiotic and other medicines as needed.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
