Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I had an anoscopy nearly two weeks ago. The specialist took a biopsy and stated that I will bleed, and for the first few days I did. But recently I have have had severe rectal bleeding after a bowel movement. I went back to my local GP, were he established (after contacting the specialist) that I had inflammation of the rectum and that there was nothing to worry about. But the blood is vast and I am concerned it could cause anemia. Is there anything I can do?
severe rectal bleed specially if long term can cause anaemia with generalised weakness .first we need to establish the cause of your bleeding . we need to trace your biopsy reports . if the reports are suggestive of only inflammatory process and no evidence of malignancy the bleeding will settle down .however if the bleeding continues you may require a colonoscopy for bowel assessment .tumours of colon , bleed ,rectl tumours bleed , and bleed could be due to a fissure on anal canal. once the cause is settled further management can be planned . also of consideration here is are you on any blood thinners like aspirin for heart conditions because these medicines can also cause rectal bleeds ,get the workup done ., you will be fine .
for severe bleed you can take medicine like trenexamic acid which helps in reduces bleeding . thanks
