What Is The Treatment For Red Rash All Over The Body And Fever?

My 31 year old daughter has been suffering for the past week with a terrible red rash all over, along with a low grade fever, general malaise and aching joints. The past 3 days she has had swollen hands and feet and a bright reddish, purple colour on her thighs. In the last 8 days we have been to walk-in clinics, hospital and her own GP 6 times. We are now awaiting results of blood work, but she is getting very anxious. Any idea?

Hello,

As per your case history your daughter is most likely to have a viral exanthema. It is a skin rash associated with a viral fever. Joint pain and malaise favor to this diagnosis.

My treatment advice is:
1. It is a self-limiting condition. As the fever subsides the rash will vanish in few days.
2. Take an additional vitamin C for faster recovery. Antihistamine medicine like Levocetirizine can be taken for itching.
3. A calamine lotion can be applied twice daily for soothing effect.

If condition persists beyond 10 days then consult a dermatologist.
