What Is The Treatment For Prolonged Fever In A Child?

: I have a 1 yr old son. He had been prescribed amoxicillin 2 months back when he had fever. The fever got subsided. But now he is having occasional fever and Paracetamol suspension does not seem to work. Can I administer another course of amoxicillin (antibiotic) now, since it has been only two months since he last took a course of antibiotic?

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hello,

95% of the times fever in this age group is usually viral in origin and hence I do not recommend indiscriminate usage of antibiotic please.
If the kid is active when there is no fever and is not having any red flag signs like respiratory distress or blood in the vomiting or motion and if the kid is feeling better when the fever is touching the baseline you need not worry about it at all.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
