What Is The Treatment For Painful And Swollen Wrist After Injury?

I was playing rugby today(very physical) and i fell on my wrist. It hurt so much i couldn't move it, so i put it on an ice-pack for half an hour.Now,6 hrs later,i can move my hand up and down with minor pain, but i cannot rotate my wrist without agony. The pain appears to be about an inch below my wrist,on my left side of the wrist, left arm.I have taken ibuprofen to numb the pain.It also appears to be very swollen.

Hello,
It is my pleasure to answer your query.
I had gone through history and understand your concern.
Your symptoms are may be due to injury to the ligament/tendon (Sprain) or injury to muscle(strain) or fracture of the bones of the wrist.
Cause for the pain and swelling should be evaluated by a thorough physical exam. You might also need an X-ray.
For your symptoms I would have suggested
1.Rest your wrist for at least 48 hours.
2.Ice your wrist to reduce pain and swelling. Do it until the pain is gone.
3.Compress the wrist with a bandage.
4.Elevate your wrist above your heart.
5.Take NSAIDs which will to reduce pain and swelling. They should be used only
on your doctors advise.
6.Make your wrist immobile.
I will suggest you to consult your doctor for identifying the cause for the pain and swelling.
Hope I have answered you questions and doubt.
Thank you.
