What Is The Treatment For Pain In Chest While Coughing?

Hi, a few days ago I choked on some biscuit crumbs and had a bad coughing fit. Since then I have developed a cough and there has been pain in my upper chest on deep inhalation and when coughing. Its a phlegm cough. Could the two be linked? I have continued coughing from time to time since the incident.

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your situation and problem.
Yes, both these events are mostly connected.
You had choking and the problem of coughing is started after this only.
Choking is the common cause for aspiration in the trachea and lungs.
So in my opinion, you have aspirated some of the food particles and they are causing you trouble coughing.
Aspirated particles if not cleared can cause inflammatory reaction and infection. This is known as aspiration pneumonia.
So better to consult pulmonologist and get done
1. Chest x ray
2. Bronchoscopic evaluation
3. CT thorax if required.
Bronchoscopic evaluation is must not only for the diagnosis but also to remove the particles.
So consult pulmonologist and discuss all these.
