What Is The Treatment For Nausea And Weight Loss?

Hello - Logged into my Aunt s account... she has been having severe nausea since December - lost 30+ pounds - weighs 90.1 pounds. Husband died in december... could be stress or unresolved issues. Bouts of lower back pain, leading to nausea, to dry heaves, to ER getting fluids and zofran iv. Weeks ok in between...now is almost constant nausea depending on what she has eaten. Anti depressant Paxil --- now changed to reme??? She has a bad metallic taste in her mouth... trying to insure she still eats but is difficult. Gastro tests all ok (no colonoscopy yet) Gall bladder, scans, no abdominal aortic anurism. Has Bladder recon from 2003. Gastro says NO nor allergies? How do they know??? I am ready to insist on allergy referal. What else? She cannot lose any more weight!

30+ pounds is a very significant weight loss. The constant nausea and frequent vomiting is also of concern. Some of this could be related to stress and severe depression. But I would want a very extensive work up and would be looking for, among other things, liver disease and cancer. Has she had an upper endoscopy? She absolutely needs the colonoscopy. Has she been checked for blood in the stools? The metallic taste suggests the possibility of blood. Her blood count should be checked and she should be evaluated for anemia. She should have a whole panel of blood tests to identify a possible cause for her symptoms, including thyroid tests. An overactive thyroid can cause these symptoms and sometimes is missed in an elderly person because they don't have the classic symptoms. Has a cause been identified for her bouts of back pain? This doesn't sound like allergies. Did she actually consult a gastroenterologist, or were these studies ordered by her family doctor? If not, I would recommend such a consult. Hope this answers your query.
