Hi,

Leigh disease is caused by mutation in the DNA in the mitochondria of the mother. In the UK, the scientists made an attempt to replace the mother mitochondria with another one, but they faced ethical problems. Some medications could alleviate the symptoms of this disease such as CoenzymeQ10 and L-carnitine.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mustafa, Neurologist
