I have an ear drum perferation and I have a fungal infection with is being treated. It was cleared up for a time, but it came back. I am scheduled for surgery to patch two holeds in my ear (TYMPOPLASTY). Can the surgery be done if the infection has not been cleared up?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The surgery should not be done till the fungal infection in the ear can be treated. However, if the infection is not in ear and is present somewhere else in the body, it can be done along with treatment with antifungals, if it is urgently needed.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
